Susan Hay, Host/Producer of Making A Difference on Global News spent the afternoon with girls from the Girls Inc. GirlSTART Literacy Program recently. Made possible by a grant from the National Post Raise a Reader program, GirlSTART is offered in select schools across Durham Region and will be offered in the community starting in September 2011. Thank you to Raise a Reader, Global TV and Susan Hay and her team for doing such a great job highlighting our future stars!
Girls Incorporated of Durham has been featured
in a number of printed and online publications, on the radio,
and on television. If you know of an opportunity to help spread
the word about our Girls Incorporated Group
Programs; our many special fundraising events; or simply our
organization and its mandate, please contact us.
The Quicktime video below was made with the
participation of girls involved with our MEDIA Smarts program
during the March Break 2007. This is one aspect of our curricula
we would like to pursue further. We would like to run Girls
Make the Message, where girls have the opportunity to make
their own Public Service Announcements (PSAs); and we could,
with donations of a video camera, microphone, and a Macintosh
computer with a version of the iMovie software. Great work
girls!
