Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Q. Why do you focus on girls?

A. Girls Inc. is dedicated to helping the girls and young women of our community to realize their full potential. In today's society, a child's gender remains a powerful predictor of the experiences and opportunities available and for this reason, youth programs must take gender into account to build skills and attitudes girls need to succeed. Girls Inc. exists to enable girls to be STRONG, SMART, AND BOLD! We believe a "girls only" environment is essential for achieving this goal. reasearch and experience show that in a pro-girl, all-girl setting, equity is more common and the following takes place: Girls are encouraged to take positive risks; Girls interact with more female role models; Girls' needs and interests are served; Girls are recognized for their achievements!

Q. How are your programs different?

A. Our programs and services are research based and are carefully and specifically designed for girls. We offer programs and innovative opportunities on topics of special importance to girls. These include math, science and technology; economic literacy; personal safety; health and well-being; leadership; media literacy and more. Delivered by professionally trainined facilitator, our programs intentionally encourage girls to assume leadership roles, learn skills and have fun!

Q. Is there a way I can volunteer?

A. Girls Inc. has several volunteer opportunities ranging from program volunteer , to Special Events, to Board Committee volunteers. Young people can also volunteer to help us with our events and qualify for Community Service hours. Click HERE for our Youth Volunteer Application form.
