Girls Incorporated of Durham hosts several special events throughout the year. These include: Girls Rights Week, our Annual Thanksgiving of Friends Dinner (Volunteer Appreciation), activities at Hallowe'en and Christmas, among other special observances. We also participate in the Ajax Homeweek Parade and Racing Against Drugs (Durham)

Thank you to all who attended our FREE Media Action Workshop. You can start making change today by:

1.Tell 5 people about the film and workshop and share one thing you learned.

2.Parents- watch TV and films with your children. Raise questions like "What if that character had been a girl instead?"

3. Use your consumer power. Women hold more than 80% of Canada's purchasing power. It's time to use it to make change.

4. Stop reading magazines and watching movies and TV shows that obectify and degrade women.

5. Avoid products that resort to sexism in their advertsing.

6. Encourage women to become leaders and support them in the process.

7. Write to media and advertisement executives and tell them what you think. Congratulate them when they highlight positive images of women and girls. Call them out when they negatively depict women.

8. Use your voice! Write your own stories and create your own films that highlight powerful women and girls in non-traditional ways. Use social media to spread positive new messages about women and girls. post a link of the MissRepresentation trailer on your Facebook Page and share it with your Twitter followers.
